Event Details: San Diego is a leader in clean energy development in the state and nation. San Diego Gas & Electric has reached the 23.6% renewable energy portfolio mandate and is on track to reach 33% by 2020. Commercial business and homeowners have added another 3% from solar PV on 33,000 rooftops. It's worth celebrating! Yet the EPA features the Top U.S. Institutions and Cities that have achieved 100% renewable energy for their communities - 7 local governments have done it, including two in California: Santa Monica and Yolo County (near Davis). California is a state that is blessed with abundant solar, wind and geothermal resources - so it's possible for San Diego to achieve the same goal if we have the political will and business commitment. Peter Meisen, Director of the Global Energy Network Institute (GENI) and Aya Futami Chafey, Research Associate with GENI have researched the 7 cities that attained 100% renewable status, and will present their findings. Open discussion to follow on what they have done and what San Diego can do. Date: Thursday May 22, 2014 Time: 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm 1088 Third Ave San Diego, CA 92101(corner of Third Ave and C Street - next to the Civic Center Trolley stop) Free Event - suggested donation $10 Please join us - and bring your personal experiences and questions! |
